In view of the health risks of mask-wearing known to me at the time – such as an excessive rise in the body’s carbon dioxide concentration, together with the associated and well-known health consequences for those affected – I was able, to the best of my medical knowledge and in accordance with the Declaration of Geneva and the Hippocratic Oath, to issue a certificate to anyone with complaints.
The case received nationwide media attention. Mainstream media reported disparagingly on the mask-exemption certificates he had issued; the coverage (including by t-online) also gave a voice to his brother, who described the burden that ultimately led to Jens Bengen’s suicide. In critical and alternative media, his death was clearly regarded as a consequence of the state persecution.
In accordance with the principle “primum nil nocere” (first, do no harm!), I would act in exactly the same way again at any time.
The questionnaire for this case was completed on his behalf by his brother, who is also a physician.
